Jill Griggs teaches you how to wire a pine cone in this free wiring
lesson. Pine cones are ideal decoration for winter wreaths, or table centres
for festivities with candles, and complement conifer, dried fruit,
berries and nuts in craft decorations. By wiring them you have the choice
of positioning them, whereas glue has no such maneuverability. If you are a beginner and would like monthly lessons from leading teachers of floral design, subscribe to floral design magazine, details here

Wiring a pine cone makes life so much easier.
If you have ever tried to glue one on to a satay stick or somehow make
it sit where you wanted, you will know the frustrations involved! By wiring
you can put it where you want it, and at the angle it should go for your
design.
 |
Using florist wire, put the wire through
the pine cone segments from one side through to the other |
Twist the wire over on itself |
Use pliers to twist the wires tighter together |
Cut the prongs to the length you require. |
You can now insert the wire prongs into dry or wet floral foam, or
attach to other plant material and position the cone as you wish.
