Gregor Lersch
http://www.gregorlersch.de/
Gregor's theme for this demonstration
was 'of the earth' and in each of the countries he visited (USA,
Australia, New Zealand) he used the earth of that country. Each design
therefore had clay incorporated into it somewhere in an innovative way.
He also revisited some of the styles he had used in the past although his
ever present 'rule breaking' and influence from the modern Japanese
Ikebana schools came through.
These designs were very hard to photograph
amongst the huge enthusiastic crowd who rushed on stage for a better
view after the show, but we did our best...enjoy!

The clay was mixed with hay and mineral
oil and used here to curl up over and into the design. Apple twigs and
steel grass gave the parallel with the leucospernums and unopened irises
grouped on two corners.

A
clay whorl with bark between was set in a collar of soft clay, with
the texture of putty. Then bromeliad flowers, orchids and bend steel
grass were added to give a little height

This time the clay was on wire netting
and curled around the bowl made of maple, willow and apple
twigs. Someone's apple tree will have no apples this year! Green Goddess
lilies and the large fern fronds enhanced the twig shape. |

Gregor took a large block of oasis, covered it in wire netting
then added a clay cover. He set in bowl with pond weed floating in
the water...so ikebana! Steel grass was bent over on top, Phalaenopsis
orchids were added in bamboo phials, wired to 2 satey
sticks. Then more steel grass on top.

This was the most colourful design Gregor did with tulips adding
to the parallel lines. He actually used very few bought flowers and a lot
was collected from gardens and road sides .This design is using maple twigs
again. Set on a brown pedestal base. Click

Zen
Flowers
I love this book! It explains the Japanese
philosophy behind flower arranging as well as presenting very contemporary
designs. If it's cover said "Contemporary European Design", instead
of Zen, you would think you were looking at the latest work from the new
Belgium designers. It's big, has wonderful photos, More... |
