A Christmas tree with a difference using pine cones, decorations and glue!  Ideas and techniques for beginners in floral art.

Tricia was inspired by the pine pyramid in Terence Moore's book New Flower Design. As with any design, that became the starting point, for Tricia's own ideas. This is also what you need to do as you develop, rather than just copy the work of others.
"This Pine Pyramid was the result of having to clean out the garage!
A bag of pine cones,an old terracotta pot, gilded dried magnolia seedheads and teasels from a long forgotten arrangement, Christmas baubles,  red curling ribbon, red tissue and gold ribbon from around last year's gifts were all I needed." Tricia said.

First find what you have in your environment.I emptied the pine cones  on to the floor and graded them from big to small, keeping the ones that were in proportion to the container.
The five biggest were glued with a gluegun and pushed down on to the rim of the pot. Then between these in the gaps I glued the gilded seedheads from the magnolia tree

This will cover the rim completely. Now glue on the next layer, smaller cones, between the others slightly in from the previous ones. Continue building the layers until they all touch at the top. I then found a branch with 5  small cones all attached to the branch, cut the top off and inserted the bottom of the branch into the hole at the top of the pyramid

Finally the smallest cone I had was glued onto the branch end on the very top to complete the pyramid. As I worked I rotated the design to see it was a pyramid shape. I then inserted the gilded teasel seedheads  between the cones at random to add contrast.
Now it's time to add the gold baubles. I had some shiny gold balls and some matt gold balls, so I put a tiny spot of gule on the threads they were attached to and randomly attached them to the cones so they hung down over the arrangemnt. Some went on the bottom cones to come down over the container to help intergrate it into the design.
Using red tissue, cover the terracotta pot by gathering it up Tie the tissue on to the pot with gold ribbon.Trim the tissue and tuck in up so it doesn't become a frill around the pot.
Finally to keep the red theme through the design, take the red curling ribbon, and take it in a loose spiral from the top cone around to the bottom of the cones.
